Burgundy by Request - Private Guided Tours in Burgundy
Our Private Wine Tours

Introduction to Wine Tasting in Burgundy
After collection from your hotel we drive into the vineyards while you are given a comprehensive introduction to the wines of Burgundy from your expert guide.  By the time we arrive at the first winery you will have grasped the basics and be ready for your first tasting where you will be initiated into how to taste the wine. There, the mystery of Burgundy will unfold before you.
Emerging from the underground cellar, we proceed to a second cellar for a ‘dégustation’ where you will be able to taste like the professionals.  We now demystify the wine labels so that you will be able to read and understand them when you return home.
During a leisurely Burgundian lunch you will be able to put into practice everything you have learnt during the morning by selecting a wine from the extensive wine list.  Afterwards, relax as you are driven through the vineyards, marvelling how the village names read just the like the wine list you studied at lunchtime.  We will stop and examine the vines, discuss how they differ from your country and examine the ‘terroir’ which makes each wine so different even though they all come from the same grapes.
Our final stop of the day will be at another winery for a wine tasting which will consolidate everything you have learnt today.

Cote de Nuits
After pick up from your accommodation in Beaune, we start the day with a private guided visit of Château du Clos Vougeot.  Historical home to the wines of Burgundy since it was established by the monks in the 12C, this Renaissance chateau was lovingly restored in the 19C.  See the giant wine presses used by the Cistercian monks and marvel at the remarkable engineering prowess of the Middle Ages
We then have a private wine tasting in a boutique winery in the Cote de Nuits followed by lunch in a typical regional restaurant.  Alternatively you may prefer a wine tasting lunch at a local vineyard with the opportunity to taste up to five Grand Cru wines with your lunch, the choice is yours.

A stroll past the famous vineyards of Romanée Conti will help settle our lunch while we examine the vines and the ‘terroir’ of this famous wine making region.  A second visit to a Cote de Nuits cellar for a private wine tasting will round of the day perfectly

Côte de Beaune
After pick up from your accommodation in Beaune, we start the day with a private guided visit of the acclaimed 15th century Hospices de Beaune, a charity hospital, still maintained today with the proceeds from its famous wine auction.
Having delved into the mysteries of the magnificent van der Weyden polyptych, we then drive into the Cote de Beaune for a tour of a well known winery and cellar, entertainingly led by one of the owners. There we will discover nature’s techniques of turning grapes into wine aided by the patience of the Burgundian winemaker.  Lunch is taken at the winery with the opportunity to taste up to 10 wines (tasting size only) with a traditional meal. The sommelier visits each table for an individualised summary of each wine explaining the nuances between each wine.
Allowing our lunch to digest, we then drive through the Cote de Beaune for a visual explanation of ‘terroir’ and closer examination of the vines.
The day is completed with a visit to a small family winery in a different village, to taste a further selection of the wines of the Cote de Beaune.
Grand Cru Experience
After collection from your hotel we commence the morning with a private tasting of Grand Cru wine at a Chateau at the foot of the Hill of Corton in Aloxe Corton.

We then visit a charming family estate in the renowned village of Gevrey-Chambertin, home to 9 Grand Cru vineyards.  Visiting the cellars, we will met the wine grower or his wife personally and experience a horizontal tasting of Grand Cru wine, whilst overlooking the vines to discover the meaning of ‘terroir’.
Lunch may be taken at a traditional winemaking estate matching a typical Burgundy meal with 5 Corton Grand Crus wines of the owner.   Alternatively, we may stay in Gevrey Chambertin for lunch with a domaine that offers a range of options, including a rare opportunity to taste Grand cru wines from their domaine in the Alsace as well.

After lunch relax as we take a drive along the Route des Grands Crus and stop to admire the sites of the legendary wines of Burgundy: Romanée Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Grands-Echezeaux, Chambertin.

Our third wine tasting of the day will be in the Cote de Nuits where we will enjoy a range of Grand Cru wines from different vineyards in the Cote de Nuits.  The owner will show us around his ancient wine cellar and vineyard then we will taste the fruits of his labour in his home, tasting a range of Grand Cru wine from various vintages.
